Growing up in the 1970’s as a horse-crazy kid I always wanted my own farm. In 1998 I finally moved myself, two horses and my cat ‘Bob’ to my farm in Brentwood, NH. I made my living in the corporate world and was fortunate enough to work from home so I had time to spend with my horses and around the farm.
In 2016 I retired from my full-time job to care for my elderly parents, both with varying degrees of dementia. It is during this part of my life that I started planting flowers around my yard. I had vegetable gardens in the past, but never really dabbled in flowers. The more they bloomed, the more obsessed I became. Both of my parents passed away in 2018 within a few months of each other. During this period in my life, the flowers were the only thing that made me happy. I had read an article about flower farming and that people were selling flowers in the same way people sell vegetables.” How interesting I thought. I’m just a farm-girl at heart and I like to play in the dirt.
In fall of 2018, I planted 1600 tulip bulbs and made plans to grow annuals in 6, 4’x75’ raised beds. This experiment, to see if I could actually grow and sell flowers, was successful. I started to sell arrangements from a small kiosk in my yard. I learned a lot that first year. In January 2020 I participated in the Floret Flower Online Workshop, and that was the start of “B. Blossoms”. Although I’m not certified as organic, I use organic practices. I've expanded to growing on 1/10 of an acre and plan to plant 20,000 tulips this fall.
My favorite thing to do first thing in the morning, is walk through the gardens and see what’s blooming. It’s all been quite a fascinating journey so far.
My flowers are available at my roadside kiosk, pick your own by appointment and workshops.
Give flowers and spread the joy!
